Stuff to Check Out: Pre-Star Wars Edition

Checking through the news, apparently Star Wars has already sold over $100 million in advanced tickets for this weekend, making it the loudest consumer statement ever that nerds run the world. If you want something done, and done quickly, find a way to capture their interest and make them take note. Essentially, anything with lightsabers and impending doom will do the trick, which is why I’m surprised none of the US presidential candidates have come out to say they’re actually a Sith lord in disguise yet.

When an Expense Becomes a Wise Investment – The New York Times

When someone says “I can’t afford that,” but show up with the newest iPhone and have more XBox games than hours in the day, they’re really telling you that they don’t prioritize that above anything else in their lives. There’s nothing inherrently wrong about that, but sometimes foregoing a creature comfort for an investment for future gain is a more effective use of time and money. There’s parallels to fitness as well as to continuing education for fitness professionals.

Is Stretching the Hips a Bad Idea? – me on thePTDC.com

After attending the FRC course in Portland a few weeks ago, I went back and re-read this article, and found a lot of the ideas I had were very much reinforced by the concepts covered. If you haven’t yet and you work with people, you should definitely look into taking an FRC course when you can.
