Is it just me or does winter seem to be lasting waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long?? Here it is the end of March and I’m still battling sub-zero temperatures, snow banks, windchill, and winter jackets. I should be wearing shorts, biking to work, having beers on my backyard deck by now, dammit!!!!! To top it off, there’s now about 4 months left until the wedding. Now although I’m looking forward to the big day, each time I realize how soon it’s going to be here and all the things left to do to put it together I kind of have a reaction sort of like this kid:
Now normally at the end of March I’m enjoying watching some of my favorite teams in March Madness play in the Final Four. Teams like Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, and hell even the local connection to my home town with Gonzaga. Here’s the problem though: NONE OF THEM MADE IT THROUGH!!!! ESPN had 5.9 million brackets registered to their fantasy pool this year, and you know how many people got the Final Four right?? Two.
That’s right, apparently of the 5.9 million brackets, only two got it right. That’s a 0.0000003% of the population that got that mutha right!! Odds are it was a couple of housewives who thought it would be fun to take a chance on their favorite colors, instead of putting any thought into it. I was in Las Vegas last weekend for the NSCA Personal Trainers conference during the height of the madness, and everywhere we went it was packed with people watching basketball (awesome) and being loud during romantic dinner time with the Future (not so awesome) to drunken losers thinking they’re the next Blake Griffin, while drunkenly weaving through the pedestrians and bumping into yours truly (very un-awesome). To top off the basketball frenzy of activity, I stumbled across a video of my high school basketball teammate and good friend Johnny “Blaze” Boateng living every ball players dream of, well, I’ll let you see for yourself.
So as the first quarter of the year is coming to an end, I’m going to switch up the training a little bit. I’ve previously worked on developing running speed and weight loss with an interval training program I developed and talked about HERE, but now it’s time to bring out the big guns. I’m still going to be gunning to a 400 deadlift, but I also want to trim down to a svelte and sexified 220 pounds of twisted steel and sex appeal before the wedding, plus I want to demolish everyone in my Boot Camp group when we can finally go outside, so it’s time to start cranking up the diet and workout plans. I have a few things planned and a couple of experiments I want to try out before getting my unsuspecting clients to go through it, so it should be a nice combination of science, mental toughness and shit-my-pants intensity that will make little children cry out in terror. Or I’ll just get some wicked abs, but either way….
On top of that, I’ve kinda fallen in love with dips lately. Yes, dips. These kinds.
I was playing around with the new camera this weekend (IT’S SO FREAKIN COOL!!! IT HAS A REMOTE CONTROL!!!!), and thought, just for the hell of it I’d throw down some weighted dips for the first time since before Clinton was scared of Hillary.
They felt good, now I must do more.
