After a fun-filled and frolicking weekend that involved a company Christmas party as well as ripping off the base boards in my bedroom and getting new ones prepped to go in (yeah, I got to use power tools. Check out my manliness!!!), I come back to work to a full calendar in December, and only two weeks until I go on holidays for 2 full weeks!!
So with that in mind, I wanted to give everyone out there a deceptively difficult stability exercise to try out, called the 1-arm cable flye. Here it is in all its’ glory.
What it’s for: Abdominal stability and linked chain strength through the arms and legs.
Coaching tips: While holding the weight in front of your body, move to the side, but try to make sure your shoulders don’t move at all. The shoulder movement allows you to use your hips to move the cable, which is counter to what we’re trying to do here. Keeping the shoulders stationary makes the abs work much harder to try to resist the rotation imposed by the cable, which makes this a redonkulously difficult ab exercise. And to make it harder, you just have to move your feet closer.
Is that a “Mr. Men” T-shirt?: Yes, yes it is. Mine is Mr. Ordinary. I saw the shirt in a store a few years ago and had to plunk down my $20 in order to reclaim some of my 6-year-old learning-to-read nostalgia. Good times. Good times.
