Stuff to Check Out: New House Edition

Well, we’re officially moved in to the new house, and starting to find homes for our various objects. We have a few appointments to get some things finished up, like a final lighting installation, HVAC inspection, landscaping, and fun stuff like that, so it’s a good thing I took this week off as a vacation week to ensure we could get things organized and be available for all this stuff. It just helps to get it out of the way. In the process of packing and moving, we also had an offer on our old  house, so hopefully that passes conditions and we can celebrate everything at once.

Oh, and I found a quarter on the ground yesterday.

To sum it up, it’s been a pretty good week.

The dogs seem to be adjusting to their new house pretty well, which we totally expected. As long as we’re here and there’s familiar smells like their blankets and food, they usually do alright.

Looking at that doorway through my office, I know what you’re thinking, and yes, this will eventually happen:

So with that said, I didn’t have the mental energy to put down some thoughts to digital paper this week, therefore I’ll share a look at some of the other cool stuff happening that you should be aware of.

Workshops:

Tony Gentilcore and I are getting back on the horse and leading some workshops looking at everything under the sun pertaining to the shoulder and hip. We’re calling it the Total Shoulder and Hip seminar, because we’re creative like that.

The Edmonton, Alberta workshop is fast approaching on August 22-23, as is the end of the early bird discount for anyone looking to attend. Register by this Sunday to save $100 compared to registering after this Sunday.

We also have workshops scheduled for St. Louis September 26-27 (click HERE for info & to register) Chicago October 17-18 (click HERE for info & to register), and will be setting up one for Los Angeles within the coming weeks, likely to happen in November-ish.

LONDON BLOKES/MATES!!!

I’m coming across the pond to teach Ruthless Mobility and Advanced Core Training, October 24-25 at Crossfit Aldgate in the heart of the financial district, so bring your Canada House and we’ll have all the tea and crumpets you can imagine.

Evil Sugar Radio Podcast appearance

This was one of the more fun and engaging podcasts I’ve ever done, and it’s no surprise why Scott Kustes and Antonio Valladares at Evil Sugar Radio have turned it into one of the top rated podcasts on iTunes. I think you’ll like this one. We cover a lot of ground, plus have the occasional R-rated moment.

Training Clients Around Pain – A Guide for Personal Trainers – Will Levy

Will hits the nail on the head with this one as to how and why trainers are best when they’re not trying to be pseudo-physical therapists and instead work within their scope and as part of a network with health care professionals versus trying to be everything to everyone.

Masters Athletes Keep their Muscles With Age – BicycleLab.com

This was a cool look at a body of research that has shown how beneficial regular exercise is throughout the lifespan, even if it’s not setting world records. Comparing MRI scans of the thigh of 40 year old triathletes and 70 year old triathletes, their muscle and fat content are pretty similar. Compare them with a sedentary 74 year old man, and the results are dramatically different. The moral of this story? Stay active, my friends. (best said with the voice of The Most Interesting Man in the World).

And with that, it’s time to go and tackle the rest of unpacking and hanging stuff with the same vigour and intensity as this guy.
