Stuff to Check Out: Early August Edition

1. Why Deadlifting 405 Meant So Much to Me – Bryan Francis

After consistently battling my own back issues and setting the goal to hit 405 last year, I can attest to how frustrating and scary it can be to have a constantly angry low back, especially when it comes to hoisting oblong objects against the pull of gravity.

Bryan is a distance coaching client of mine, and after talking him off the ledge a few times (as well as explaining how to actually take a bath), we got on the same page about how to train, what he should be aware of in terms of feeling like a bag of poop versus feeling like he could rip the arms off a wookiee.

He decided to come to the Boston seminar last weekend with Tony Gentilcore and I, then participated in the small group workout, and hit a 30 lb deadlift PR, pushing him over the 405 mark at a body weight of only 156.

2. Recapping the Boston Seminar – Tony Gentilcore

In keeping with the Star Wars references, there’s a particular story about my first night in Boston that makes you have to check this out, if for nothing else than how epic it was to see/hear.

3. Muscle Up!! 4 Muscle Building Do’s – Bodybuilding.com

This is the second article I’ve written for Bodybuilding.com, and they seem to be fairly well received, so it will most likely become a regular thing. Although somewhat less technical than stuff I put on this site, the information is still widely applicable to anyone looking to get strong, build muscle, and just feel better.

4. BulletProof Athlete: Last days of the launch price!! – Mike Robertson

In keeping with the sporadic theme of Star Wars, Mike Robertson has dropped a Jedi-level program on the world, which I’m actually planning to do beginning next week. It looks solid, simple to execute, and comes with some weekly nutrition and recovery challenges that are relatively easy to integrate into your lives, so it goes without saying that it would work well for a lot of people.

The price goes up after Saturday, and for only $97, it’s a virtual steal of a deal. Think about it: you get a full 16 week program, complete with video library, nutritional info, progressions and regressions, for less than the cost of a single session with Mike.

Eric Cressey released Show and Go Training a few years ago, which is a similar type of program for people who want to look and feel better, while chasing athletic progress. This is a logical continuation of that program, and will give anyone who has previously worked through Show and Go training a chance to see continued gains after the original program ended. For those who haven’t picked up Show and Go yet, consider going through Bullet Proof Athlete, then giving Show and Go a shot once you’ve completed the 16 week program. They both compliment each other really well, and you can’t go wrong with programs built by two of the top strength coaches in the world.
