Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in America! Today is hopefully a day filled with family, friends, food, and self-loathing during the post-dinner digestion period. No one cares about how many calories are in that meal, or if you can work it off. Enjoy the day.
And for everyone not in America, enjoy Thursday!!
Last weekend I was in Vancouver, BC teaching a workshop to a smashed out group of 50 trainers, physical therapists and chiropractors, so as I haven’t had a day off in a couple of weeks I’ve been a bit behind on the writing thing for a while.
Because it’s apparently a big shopping holiday, Tony Gentilcore and I decided to bring Complete Shoulder and Hip Blueprint back out for a short sale this weekend. Until Sunday at midnight, you can save $30 on your copy. Just click the link to learn more about it.
Breathing, Rib Flare, and Winged Scapulae: The Factors that can Affect a Client’s Shoulder – Me via thePTDC.com
This is an article I wrote a little while ago and it was repurposed for the PTDC audience, and it seemed to go over very well.
Running is the Worst Way to Get Fit – Nick English via Tonic
I was asked to contribute to this piece on Tonic, and to be entirely honest, while I was quoted accurately, I wasn’t terribly sold on how it was written, or with the conclusions it drew. The unfortunate part of being asked to contribute to a piece is that I would rarely have any input outside of my own quotes as to how the article is written, or have any way to approve or reject prior to publication. The goal of this article was to create controversy, and it definitely succeeded.
Swimming is the Worst Way to Get Fit – James Fell
This starts with a tongue-in-cheek overview of swimming, then proceeds to rebut the Running article mentioned above. It’s an interesting and entertaining read to compare both pieces.
How to Improve Athleticism – Eric Bach
This was a compilation piece with a bunch of coaches giving their 2 cents on how to improve different components of athletic ability, including one from me.
Your Network: More Important Than Any Piece Of Gym Equipment – Pete Dupuis
Amen. This piece works for trainers as well as facility owners. If you have any gaps in your own knowledge or skillset, it works in your best interest to find people who can fill those gaps and compliment you and what you do well. I don’t do physical therapy, spinal manipulations, or anything like that, so finding people who are skilled in those dimensions helps me do my work more effectively. Everyone can benefit from taking the approach Pete discusses here.
Apparently this is a real thing.
