Next week I’ll be heading back to the old country of British Columbia to visit my parents, and as the wifi connection in the mountains is less than stellar, I’ll only have internet when I can wrestle the cable away from the bears. You might not believe it but black bears are all about them memes.
It’s going to be nice to make a road trip, especially since it’s the 1 year anniversary since we purchased our new SUV and we’ve only put 10,000 km on it. Time to max out the lease mileage.
Anyways, here’s some stuff to check out.
Speaking: Alberta Provincial NSCA Clinic, June 3rd, Calgary Alberta Canada
On the way back from our road trip, I’m dropping by CityFit Personal Training to talk about assessments for a couple of hours, and get people to go through some hands on assessments. These aren’t going to be the usual “here’s your score” kind of assessments as those usually don’t mean anything to the person in front of you, but we’ll break down what the assessment means relative to their goals, and how to build a direct program that can connect them from where they may have limitations specific to their goals and help them get farther along.
The Shoulder: Assessment to Badass – Tony Gentilcore
Following my week vacation, Tony and I head off to London to teach Complete Shoulder & Hip Blueprint to a private company and their trainers, and Tony managed to get a second speaking opportunity in Paulton, UK the day before. He’ll be freshly jet-lagged and scrambling to go through customs and get there from Heathrow on time, and if you want to see him look hilariously frazzled, this is your opportunity. Plus he can teach you a lot about shoulders.
L2 Fitness Summit – Edmonton, Alberta September 16-17
This is going to be a really fun event. I’m doing a full day on assessment breakdowns, correctives, and program design, and then Dr. Mike Israetel from Renaissance Performance will be going through a full day or hypertrophy training, from nutrition to program structure and even a group workout to put the concepts into practice. It’s in Edmonton in September, which is a surprisingly beautiful time to be here, so if you want to take advantage of the low Canadian dollar and go on a 35% discounted learning vacation for any American friends, or go somewhere that isn’t requiring you to pay in American dollars for Canadian friends, you should come to this.
Complete Shoulder & Hip Blueprint, Orlando October 21-22
We just announced this a few weeks ago and already have some registrations coming in, so if you want to come to Orlando in October, this would be an excellent opportunity for one of the last times this year that Tony Gentilcore and I will be rocking out this seminar. Maybe we’ll even do our super-secret handshake in front of everyone.
Photographers on Post-Partum Shoot Showcase Moms – People.com
This was a very cool initiative started by a local photographer Hobbs Photos to showcase body-positive images of new moms following delivery, and how we all come in different shapes and sizes. My cousin, Erin Hodder, was actually featured in this project as well, and it’s been picked up by dozens of international media outlets.
Boob Noob – Hannah Gray
Cogentally to the previous piece, some elements of weight loss and fitness aren’t discussed enough, such as shopping for new clothes after a major body weight fluctuation. Hannah is a co-worker and good friend and she’s seen massive changes in her body in the past few years, and tells a fantastic story a lot of women can relate to: shopping for a new bra.
LOL At This Avocado Toast Advice From a Millionaire – Ramit Sethi
I’ve had avocado toast before. It wasn’t special. I know some people who lose their minds about it though, so to each their own. My thoughts are with Ramit, that it’s likely not the minor discretionary spending that cause people to not be able to afford a home, nor is home ownership expected to be the sole goal of financial success. Most banks won’t give you a mortgage with anything less than 5% of the value of your purchase already saved up, which means you’re looking at a huge pile of avocado toast over the span of decades to make this advice even scratch the surface.
Should You Skip Your Workout Today? Here’s How to Tell – Livestrong.com
This was a fun article I contributed to thanks to Lauren Bedosky on how to use different indicators to tell if your workout is going to be fantastic or more worthy of shuffling through the paces.

The cat-camel stretch is simultaneously one of the most under-rated and thoroughly butchered exercises you can do for spinal health.
