Low Back Library

I’ve been kind of geeking out on the low back lately, and for good reason: In the last month I’ve had 4 clients come to me with either low back pain or referred pain coming from their low back region, and I’ve worked on a few small tweaks to my own back program that have been pretty impressive as far as pain reduction and muscle recruitment are concerned. I’ll give you an idea of what it was: I changed my breathing. That is all I’m going to say for now, cuz I want something for the future posts. On top of that, I just worked a fourteen hour day yesterday and am pretty bagged, so I don’t want to put much effort into a full-blown post today.

I figured since I’ve been getting some great comments about low back injuries and my approach to working with a client with low back issues, I’d share some of my favorite low back posts that I’ve written over the past few months.

Posture is Why Your (insert body part here) is Messed up Who else has the guts to make up a haiku about fitness assessments?? No one, that’s who. Oh, and posture is pretty important.

How I Screwed up my Back….and What I Did About it About as autobiographical as I can get about training and my own injury. Lots of comments from people sharing their stories as well, which was completely unexpected, but definitely awesome to hear.

What Does it Mean If I Feel It Working My Legs?? While more about straight leg raises than the lumbar spine, it is all directly related, as you’ll see once you click on it.

The Myth of Neutral Spine Can you actually say whether Bigfoot is a lefty or whether he speaks the king’s English if you’ve never seen him? You also can’t expect someone to stand in neutral spine if it doesn’t exist. By the way, Bigfoot has impeccable grooming.

My Top Low Back Fixes My plan of action with clients with back pain, pretty much step by step. If you can’t follow this and get some results, you’re probably in need of a doctor, and you should get into an ambulance right now. Seriously, it’s idiot proof.
