Oh sweet baby Jeebus, I’m getting closer to deadlifting 405:
Now I know what you’re thinking: “Aw come on ya pansy. deadlifts are tha awesome, but 405 ain’t that great!! My granma can pull a better one than that outta her arse!!!” And you know what? In the grandest scheme of things it’s not that much weight, especially when you compare it to a lot of other strength coaches out there. The big difference is that I set this goal after bulging a couple of discs in my back earlier this year, and it’s a big deal to me to hit it to show that my back is getting stronger and healing properly. Also, it’s a big test for the program I put myself on that I’m using for my new book (hopefully coming out sometime next year), so ya, it’s a big deal to me, regardless of the numbers.
On that note, today’s exercise you should be doing is one of my favorites, especially because it does so much in one single movement:
For developing rotational power and anterior diagonal spiral fascial chain strength and reactibility, plus an all-around wicked bum and a stellar “I’m gonna punch you in the throat” facial expression, it’s truly the bee’s knee’s. Let’s look at this more closely….
Movement in saggital plane: check
Movement in frontal plane: check
Movement in transverse plane: double-check
Legs: yes
Arms: also a yes
Core/spinal stability: Hell Yes
Level of overall awesomeness: 8.75/10. It would have been a 10/10 if it had been performed by Ines Sainz.
