Stuff To Check Out: Post Easter Bonanza

Raise your hand if your March Madness bracket is completely busted now that Kentucky is eliminated??

Truth be told, I never really do a bracket as I hate to lose every time I do something, but I was completely expecting Kentucky to make the finals and thought they had the best chance of anyone to winning the whole thing, but that’s why you play the game.

Along those lines, the first stuff to check out is all about the tournament and players ability to earn an income from it.

Should Athletes Get A Piece of NCAA Revenue?  – Wall Street Journal

College sports are worth billions. BILLIONS. Know how much of that income the players who provide the entire basis of the talent being observed get? Zero. Sure, they have the ability to get a scholarship to pay for their tuition, but they are also so indentured to the concept of having zero income from sources that could be considered “authorative or influencing” that they pretty much have to live in poverty while doing so. This article gives some hard and fast numbers to hopefully open some eyes and potentially create beneficial change.

On a slightly less controversial topic, my Edmonton seminar is coming up quickly, and will correspond right around the time we’re planning to take possession of our new house.

The Total Hip Training & Conditioning seminar is already halfway to being sold out, and promises to be an awesome event. We’ll go through everything from pertinent anatomical considerations to assessments, corrective actions (if needed), progressive strength training and conditioning concepts, plus coaching common movements to ensure people aren’t exploding their spines all over the place.

It’s a one-day seminar on June 6th, and the cost is only $199. Continuing education credits will be provided, as well as witty banter and plenty of awkward jokes.

Last week, Eric Cressey put his High Performance Handbook on sale for the first time in…… ever. If you didn’t get a chance to pick it up for $50 off the regular price, you can still get it but at the cost of an extra Ben Franklin compared to last week.

Eric was a writing machine, and came out with a massive amount of guest articles and content for other sites, so even if you’re not looking to get a copy, you can find all the content for free, which he organized on this post.

Cleaning Up The Turkish Get Up – Tony Gentilcore

Tony did an awesome job developing the thought process around how to do a turkish get up without looking like someone getting their first prostate examination from a heavy-handed doctor. A little hint: If you feel like you’re struggling, you’re not doing it right. The TGU should be almost like loaded yoga, or a movement done smooth, fluid, and easily while maintaining the ability to breathe and talk normally.

Tony and I have included coaching the TGU in our workshops together, and we’re looking to bring them back for 2016 with some new content, so stay tuned for that.

Fast Food vs. Supplements – Tim DiFrancesco

Not only is this a great article about the differences between getting your nutrients in different forms, but it’s written by the Los Angeles Lakers head strength coach. Here’s hoping including him on this list qualifies me to come and hang out with them for a practice, game, season, etc. One can hope, right?

Lastly, I put up a status on Facebook last week talking about how to listen only to yourself when it comes to your dreams and use the opinions of others as fuel for what you want to accomplish.

Judging from the response, I guess a lot of people enjoyed it and hopefully it helped to inspire others to follow their dreams and achieve their goals. There’s a big difference between learned counsel from others and unsolicited opinions that aren’t beneficial to the individual. Know which ones you’re getting and use them wisely.
