For some unknown reason I decided in a scheduling Jedi-Mind-Trick bout of brilliance to book a speaking engagement at a conference in Edmonton, then a full-day workshop in Calgary the day after this past weekend, then also decided to come back to a full week of work, and then have another course to teach to new trainers coming up this weekend. I’ll admit, I may have actually shed a few tears when I saw this at the beginning of the month, but decided to soldier on and make the most of it.
As a result of this, my ability to plunk on down and disperse copious amounts of fantastic has been reduced, which has meant fewer than optimal updates on this here blog site. However, being a man of action, I’ve decided that there is one solution to this dilemma that can both satisfy my loyal and absolutely fantastic readers, as well as potentially give a leg up to some people who want to have some additional exposure to add to their resumes.
So here’s the deal: I’m currently looking for some very qualified individuals to write some blog posts that can help to showcase the authors to a different audience. You don’t have to be famous to contribute something here, nor do you have to have some sort of product affiliation to pitch. In fact, it would be best if it were neither, but acceptable if you were just famous. I know there’s some pretty cool people who check this site out on occasion (just based off comments, emails, and the odd newsletter subscribers names), so it could potentially lead to some new exposure and other fun adventures down the line if you play your cards right.
If you have a website already, fantastic. I’ll make sure I link everything back to you so that if you impress people they can check out more stuff you’ve done, and if you managed to piss someone off you can now have a brand-spankin new stalker raining down the hatred all over you. If you don’t have a website, cool, as long as you know how to structure a paragraph that’s more than two sentences long and can use basic grammar you’ll be fine.
Here’s some ground rules for any articles you want to submit:
1. Don’t pitch. If you have a product or something you make a living exchanging with others for dollars, that’s cool, but tell people about something cool that doesn’t involve pulling out their credit card to get access to.
2. Make it something the readers can use today, and something that relates to health and/or fitness. This is a broad topic, so there’s no real limitations here.
3. If you want to make controversy, back it up. I’m not just talking about “so and so’s newsletter says he’s gone from eating vegan to only eating bald eagles and the tears of baby seals so it must be true.” Cite some scientific, peer-reviewed journals to back it up, and make sure you read through the articles to make sure they aren’t comparing the effects of kettle bells with a 36 pounds bell to olympic weight lifting with a 200 pound loaded bar and extolling the fact that weight lifting produced better results. Seriously, that was an actual study!! It’s like comparing a sprinter to a marathon runner to a wheelchair athlete.
4. Bring the awesome. Seriously, my readers are pretty kick-ass people, and they deserve to have someone write something that has more personality than a wet fart, so throw in some colour, use humour as often as possible, and make it downright entertaining to read, as well as something that can give them something to improve some aspect of their life. If your article read so technical that it resembles instructions for programming your VCR, it’s not gonna fly.
That’s it, Easy peasy nice and easy, you can write a post and show it off to all your friends and your mom and hopefully it will lead to bigger things down the road. I’m a big enough person to know that I wouldn’t be where I am without some very kind people opening the odd door for me, so I am more than happy to repay the favour by opening as many doors for others as possible.
If you’re interested in submitting an article, leave me a comment below and I’ll email you back, or you can send me an email directly with some ideas you might have.
