May Long Randomness

For those of you not from the Great White North, this coming weekend is a long weekend for us crazy Canucks, and as such the Future and I will be partaking in the national method of celebration: getting the hell out of town. We’ll be spending the weekend in Lake Louise, hiking, mountain biking, sleeping in, and whateverthehell else kind of shenanigans we decide to get up to.

As I’ll be away for the weekend, you can bet your ass I won’t be doing very much “work,” so unfortunately I won’t be putting together another blog post until Tuesday. C’est la vie, I guess.

One of the reasons we’re looking to get the rock out of town is the fact that Edmonton has only two seasons: Winter and Mosquitoes, and apparently we’re dead in the middle of season two of the little buggers. Last year was pretty tame, as we didn’t have that much snow to give the sumbitches cover to breed their nasty little asses off, but this year….THIS YEAR!!! I think I saw a swarm of them carrying off a medium-sized dog yesterday. That or it was Daryl Katz’ hair (Note: he’s the evil billionaire owner of the Rexall pharmacies and the Oilers, and who many people believe to be Batman).

On Monday, I took my Boot Camp group through their normal weekly “wishing they could die but can’t find a good way” workout, but about 3 minutes into it, everyone was slapping and swearing more than Mel Gibson after a few wobbly pops, so I decided to pull an executive and retreat to higher ground. I think these are some sort of secret strain of mosquitoes that were used to kill Osama in a covert super-stealth millitary black ops that can’t be detected by even the most advanced radar. That, or we just have big ole skeeters up here.

So yesterday during my workout, I was warming up some deadlifts and thinking about what kind of a funny bugger Daniel Tosh is, especially since he’s going to be coming to Edmonton the Monday right after our wedding, and the day before we head out on a mini-honeymoon of romantic escapades (Fantastic timing?? Me thinks so!!), and I began the way I normally do:

Set 1: 135 x 8

Set 2: 225 x 8

Set 3: 315 x 5

Then something funny happened. I felt a little something with the deadlifts I hadn’t felt in a long time. For one, they felt easy. I mean, normally I had to think a bit more about what I was doing at 315, but this time it just seemed to flow into a nice well-oiled groove and glide on up there. So I thought to myself “Self, I should try something out today.” I threw another plate on the bar, and proceeded to pull 405 for 2 reps, 3 weeks after maxing out at 405. And believe it or not I still had something left in the tank, so I thought, what the hell, let’s try 425. Guess who has two thumbs and is awesome with a 425 deadlift??

So I’m thinking that pulling 500 by the end of the year shouldn’t be too far outside of the realm of possibility. Either that or the bug spray is starting to seep into my pores.

I wanted to also let you all know of a cool new website that I’m a part of called the Personal Trainer Development Center.

This is a resource for trainers, by trainers, and looks at elements of business development in the fitness industry, and has some pretty big names associated with it. I was asked by Jon Goodman, the man behind the brand, to be one of the coaches, and to say I was honored to be considered would be an understatement.

The site will feature articles from some of the top trainers in Canada, as well as from the States and where ever else we can find top talent, and will cover pretty much every aspect of business and professional growth that a trainer could hope for. There’s a ton of resources out there to learn about anatomy and physiology, but unfortunately there isn’t much for learning the business of fitness, which is where this will come in. Check it out and let me know what you think, as well as anything you would want to learn about so can write a few articles for it.

In closing my dear friends, I would like to leave something with you to try to wrap your heads around:

If I have 6 pickles, and I give 3 to my friend, but he breaks out in hives after eating 2, should this video make any sense?

ARVE Error: need id and provider

It’s a random post, hence the random finish!! Enjoy your weekends everybody!!!
