Stuff To Check Out: Saskatchewan Edition

I’m sitting in a conference centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, attending and presenting at the Canadian Strength Symposium this weekend. It’s a rare occasion to be in Saskatchewan in late January where the temperature is above zero, and also a rare event where there’s a relatively big fitness event on the Canadian Prairies. I’m co-presenting with Dr. Stuart McGill and Andre Benoit (whom I just realized lives in Airdrie outside of Calgary. ROAD TRIP!!), which is a massive honour in and of itself, nd also means if someone asks a question there’s two guys who know a hell of a lot more than me who could answer!

Today I just wanted to make a quick post on some awesome stuff that’s coming up as well as some good reads to take you through the weekend.

New York Seminar Series: February 28- March 1, 2015

The early bird special for this ends January 31st, and let’s you save $100 off the regular price registration, but also includes a DVD copy of Ruthless Mobility, one of the workshops I’ll be presenting over the weekend. NSCA continuing education credits are available, and it’s also in New York city. What’s not to love? There’s even a payment installation plan available to break the payments up in 2 increments to make it easier to do.

Kansas City Fitness Summit: May 1-2, 2015

I attended this last year and it was hands down one of the funnest events I’ve ever attended in terms of the fitness industry. I’m presenting at it this year, and my goal is to make every single jaw in the place drop a few times and make mine the walk away favourite seminar for the entire weekend, so you’ll want to attend.

8 Non-Fitness Books Every Fit Pro Should Read: Tony Gentilcore

Tony always has to one-up me. Jerk. I posted a post last week on 9 books you should read, so to make it faster and better he did 8 books for his list. What’s next? 7 books? 7 minute abs? 6 minute abs??

Regardless, his list was awesome and admittedly I haven’t read many of these titles, so I’ll get back to this list a few times and pick up the different recommendations.

Planks: The Magic Sauce to Fix Hip Mobility: The PTDC [reprint]

This was a re-print of an article I wrote a couple years ago, which had a massive response, and this article was no different. It generated a great discussion and hopefully helps people see cool results and ask some great questions.

What Makes you Happy: Lindsay Somerset

A great post on following what drives you and realizing happiness is better than a small increase in pay or short term pay off.

Why I Have Mixed Feelings About MLK Day: Kareem Abdul Jabbar

This was an amazing perspective on progress and tribulations of finding the benefits of a holiday that celebrates the life and work of an amazing man, and also how far we have yet to go. The parallels to fitness can be made, but they’re really not that important in the grand scheme of things.

Woman Crashes Car While Shaving Privates: Florida

This has absolutely nothing to do with fitness, but is an amazing read nonetheless. Just when you think it can’t get any more obtuse and unbelievable, it does. The article is absolute gold, and a great prelude to the fun and shenanigans to be had when I get to Florida for the end of May to attend a wedding. GOLD, JERRY!!
