Contest Update

So last week I held a design contest to see who could come up with a kick-ass logo as well as a catch phrase/slogan that would inspire fear, intimidation, hope, joy, envy, and pretty much every emotion simultaneously at once. In case you missed it, you can check it out HERE. As a quick recap, I want to make up some shirts with logos that are almost as awesome as this:

First off, I want to thank everyone who responded with a suggestion for a slogan, as well as those who submitted a design idea and also those who shared the post with all their social circles. It’s pretty awesome to see how many people got involved in this one, so I am beyond extatic and know that the design and slogan chosen will be the best representation of the readers of this site and their thoughts and beliefs, rather than simply me putting stuff together and hoping it all work out.

Bravo everyone!!!

So after receiving about 2 dozen entries in the design contest, I narrowed the field down to the two I felt were the absolute best, and wanted to share them with you to get your input.

The first comes from Dylan Coleman with this stunning rendition of the Vetruvian Man.

The second comes from Teiko Reindorf, whose style you might recognize as he is the main illustrator for the Mighty Trainer.

SO HERE’S WHAT I NEED YOU TO DO….

Drop a comment below with the design you would prefer to see. The winner will be the one with the most COMMENTS RECEIVED by Thursday evening at 11:59pm est.

Next comes the slogan contest. I have to admit I was blown away with the response to this one, especially considering the number of likes given to some of the entries. At the end of the day, there were two that really stood out as the far and away favorites, but the numbers were so close I didn’t want to completely abandon one or the other, so I need some more help here, but we’ll get to that in a second.

The first entry comes all the way from the Mediterranean via Fotis Chatznicolaou with his tag line:

BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN NINJAS AND BARBELLS

The next heavily favour contender comes from Melinda Lee with the tag line:

POWERFUL GOALS TO LIFT UP YOUR SPIRITS

So here’s my conundrum. Both were only separated by a mere 7 likes, which is fantastic, but I want to make sure this is as inclusive as possible. So I need you to help me make a decision.

  1. Fotis’ had the greatest number of likes, so should he get the championship of the world?
  2. Melinda still had a huge number of likes, so should there be two different slogans?
  3. Would it be better to have Fotis’ for the guys shirts and Melinda’s for the girls?
  4. Which one do YOU like better?

If you could drop me a comment below to let me know your thoughts it will help making the decision a lot easier, and also show more of a crowd-think mentality to help get the most popular decision possible.

Lastly, there was the social share contest. This contest was shared over 100 times through various social media outlets, which I’ll be honest was somewhat lower than I thought it would be given how easy the contest was to enter, but I digress.

After putting every share’s name into a Starter Cap and shaking the hell out of it, I pulled out the following two names at random for people who managed to share the contest to all their friends:

Jeremy DuVall

Mike Schweigert

Congratulations you two!! Shoot me an email HERE to let me know if you would prefer iTunes or Amazon.com gift cards and I’ll get on it.

For everyone else, please please pretty pretty PLEASE drop a comment below to let me know which design you like the best, and what slogan option you think would be the best choice. I’ll make a final decision on the slogan as of Thursday evening, and will hopefully have a fantastic design finalized by each and every one of you by Friday morning.

  • Fotis Chatzinicolaou

First of all, thanks to all who “liked” my slogan, its a great honour for me!

Next,I really like Dylans illustration,I mean the t-shirt is really epic! Great design,it kinda reminds me of Medievil back in Playstation 1!

Finally, although I was one of the contestants,I really like Melindas slogan as well,so I think she must also be a winner. Dont think that there should be a gender difference between t-shirts(girls can like ninjas as well!) just try to include them both!

  • http://www.facebook.com/ptenopus Gina Caracciola

    I really like Dylan’s illustration!

  • Tedward’s Mom

Dylan’s art + Fotis’ slogan – Kicks ass!

  • Melinda Lee

Thank you to everyone who liked my slogan.  Good job to Fotis for getting all those likes on his slogan!  I agree with him that we should both be winners & if possible, maybe try to use both slogans or maybe Dean can incorporate the 2 slogans into one?

And Dylan’s artwork looks really cool!

  • http://twitter.com/imapiper2 Terryll Rex

I like Melinda’s slogan the best by far.  But I also like the idea of two slogans, Fotis’ for the guys shirts and Melinda’s for the girls.

  • Lynne lillington

    Melindas Slogan is great.

  • Maria

Dylan Coleman’s design is awesome! The shapes and color choice are great.

  • Kraftykylies

    I like Melinda Lee’s slogan

  • Ja RaNa

I like Melinda’s slogan better so there should be 2 different slogans & winners

  • Scott mccray

the no more weak links is a bit odd as it shows a man breaking a chain clearly made of weak links. a bit confusing if u ask me.

  • John Anderson

I really prefer Fots slogan for some reasons. Originally, what Dean asked for the contest was “I want to know who has the best sense of what this site is all about”
If some of you read Deans site you know that he makes a lot of references regarding ninjas, jedis, zombies when talking,he hates Tracy Anderson and Jillian Michaels,he always says “and some jerk named Somerset” when he is participating in an event/product,”helping clients get their swole on”,and he actually uses the “trying to bring/bringing sexy back”. Finally he loves lifting heavy stuff(did anyone see the barbell DL of 405 lbs?)
Bridging the gap between ninjas and barbells might seem childish but I like it better, since it has a Somerset air around it. Heck,Paulis Kiurus  Slogan: Bringing sexy back is also more like deans slogan. Melinda had a nice slogan but it was too generic,at least for my tastes.
Still, since the difference was too small,I say that both slogans should be featured.

  • Ann Feliciano

I like Melinda’s slogan better so I think there should be two different slogans and winners!

  • Shaun

Hands down, I prefer Fotis’ slogan. Mel’s slogan makes think of those motivational posters that go around crossfitters on facebook, that are always over a background photo of someone doing a burpee. I think that the Ninjas slogan perfectly captures Dean’s slightly offbeat take on strength & conditioning. I mean, look at the poster at the top of this post.

I think there’s enough ‘inspirational’ and ‘tough guy’ gym tshirts. I’d definitely buy one that both references barbells and ninjas.

P.S. Absolutely no disrespect meant to all the other entries.

  • Angelos Giannourakos

Well I believe Melida’s slogan for girls is great and Foti’s slogan for guys is awesome.Although is just my opinion!!!

  • Fotis Chatzinicolaou

You and Jon are spot on! The original idea was something like “DeanSomerset, the Jedi of kinetics” but I dont know,it sounded kinda lame(no offence Dean) and I doubt that someone would have bought a shirt that references someone else!

  • RS

I must REALLY be getting old: I prefer Teiko’s design and Fotis’ slogan, though I’m not entirely against using both. Great job all around. Further proof that you have some hellacious fans, sir.

  • http://twitter.com/JeremeyD Jeremey DuVall

I prefer the Fotis slogan since I think it relates more with your content and writing style. I also like Teiko’s graphic the best, although the other one is awesome too!

  • Cristy

I really like Melinda’s so there should be two. :D

  • Content Sasso

    I like Melinda’s slogan better

  • http://www.facebook.com/MS.LOUISEANNE Louise-Anne Pilsbury

I really like Melinda’s slogan better, so there should be two different slogans and winners.

  • Tobepep

I like Melinda best …but you could do  a few of both with a unisex shirt seeing what sells the best …. then go with that …
that is my two cents lol

    angelina jacobs-howell
    tobepep@yahoo.com

  • Helen

Personally, I like Melinda’s slogan better, although both were very nice. There should be 2 winners

  • Belinda

I like Melinda’s slogan better so there should be 2 different slogans & winners

  • John Anderson

I also like the fact that people copy paste without limit the “I like Melinda’s slogan better so there should be 2 different slogans & winners”. Makes you wonder for troll accounts. Try to be a bit more creative people, for Deans shake

  • Jon_PTDC

Teiko for the pic and Fotis for the catch phrase. No question.

  • CC

Please don’t do guys/girls shirts with guys/girls specific slogans. Using both slogans is a great idea, but don’t make one specific to either guys or girls. Speaking as woman, I get really annoyed at how everything for a woman (especially in the fitness world) has to be “nice”, or pink and have flowers all over it. It’s cool to like pink and flowers but it shouldn’t be the only option for a girl to get a proper fitting shirt. Personally I like Fotis’ slogan better. It made me laugh, it’s more unique and I think it better represents the type of humour shared in your writing. Also I prefer Teiko’s design. Thanks for asking for our input, happy choosing!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1834246314 Dusan Slepcevic

I say two different winners, but I like Melinda’s better

  • countryroads

I like Dylan’s the best, defiantly original!!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=581265363 Brianne Armstrong

I’m for a girls AND guy’s slogan, giving them BOTH the opportunity! (Go Melinda, I’m a little biased…and a girl.) ;)

  • kerry santillo

Melindas slogan was the one for me, I think alot of other people agreed , thats why it was so well liked .

  • Brandon Sferrazza

I will buy a No More Weak Links shirt… Both designs are amazing, but you can’t argue with a viking that deadlifts.

  • Giggles2622

i think melinda should win like hers the best

  • Colleenvdmerwe

I like Melinda’s slogan better so there should be 2 different slogans & winners

  • Michael G.

I think Melinda’s slogan is the best. Both Melinda & Fotis should receive the prize & both be winners.

  • deansomerset

I’m sure Teiko will love that!!

  • Jeffreykfisher

I really enjoy Dylan Colman’s design. He has my vote.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1221601455 Kristina Ciccone

Dylan’s, hand’s down. Not that Teiko’s is bad, but I enjoy the color palate and the body-in-motion.

  • Daze

I think both slogans are great, prefer Dylan Coleman’s design.

  • Lonnie

    Dylan!!!

  • http://twitter.com/paulacfleming Paula Fleming

All four potential winners are pretty kickass, but what’s extra cool is that there’s the possibility for nice pairings. I think Dylan’s logo works better with Fotis’ slogan, since the artwork is more sleek and ninja-like. Teiko’s logo is much more super-powered and heroic, which makes Melinda’s slogan more appropriate. If you’re considering using both slogans, then you should also use the logo that matches the slogan. I don’t think there should be a male/female split in the design, since I agree with other commenters that having gender-specific designs gets tiresome.

If we must narrow it down to a single winner for each, then Dylan and Fotis get my vote. As others have already said, the ninja reference is much more in line with your writing style Dean. It makes better sense to have your branding material match your personality.

Wow, I’m a bit extra special today. Went to add my name but accidentally posted my comment instead. Anyway, see above for my opinion.
